City
Council Honors Given
Carlsbad
City Library Literacy Services
Learning Connection: Nov/Dec 2014
On
Tuesday, September 9th, the Mayor and City Council of Carlsbad presented a
Proclamation to Heather Pizutto and Carrie Scott, recognizing September as Adult
Literacy Awareness month in honor of the 30th anniversary of the California Library Literacy Services and
our program. Nyla, a learner in Literacy Services, also spoke about her experience.
The
Proclamation reads:
Whereas,
the City of Carlsbad recognizes the need for educated and informed residents to
meet the challenges of an increasingly technological society; and
Whereas,
Carlsbad
City Library Literacy Services is a proud member of the California Library
Literacy Services program, and both are celebrating 30 years of changing lives
for the better; and
Whereas,
Literacy Services provides opportunities for adults to improve their reading,
writing and computer skills to meet their life goals; and
Whereas,
volunteers generously and patiently donate over 11,000 hours annually to help
adults improve their skills; and
Whereas,
adult learners enrolled in the Literacy Services program contribute to Carlsbad
becoming a world-class city by improving their job skills, reading to their children
and voting.
Now,
Therefore, I, Matt Hall, Mayor of the City of Carlsbad, on behalf of the City
Council, do hereby join the State of California in proclaiming the month of
September 2014 as Adult Literacy Awareness Month in the City of Carlsbad and
commend and congratulate all of our volunteers, learners and supporters who
promote literacy in our community.
