Literacy Volunteers-HBPL's 2018 Annual Meeting & Awards
Event was a wonderful time with
2017-2018 President Susie Hodge, Central's Program Director Diane Moseley, and Stephanie
Beverage, Library Director for Huntington Beach Public Library at the helm.
Our
wonderful learners were recognized for being "Writer to Writer"
challenge entrants, for
earning their U.S. citizenship, for becoming graduates of the COHS (Career
Online High
School) and achieving outstanding learner recognition!
5-10-15
year service pins were awarded to program volunteers; thank you to all
volunteers! New board members were elected, and outgoing members were
recognized for their service on the board.

Literacy
Volunteers' Authors Panel On July 12, 2018, six local authors who sometimes
call themselves "The Long Beach Fiction Writers," converged at the
Huntington Beach Central Library to give live readings from their books. The
Literacy-sponsored event was organized by board member, activities chairperson,
local author and member of the group, Barbara K. Robinson. Nancy Mary, Barbara
Eknoian, Mushroom Montoya, Carol Anne Perini, and John Stacey rounded out the
sextet.
The
purpose of the event was to encourage would-be writers to look the fear of writing
straight in the eye and WRITE! The panelists agreed that the blank page is a
scary thing, but we all have a story waiting to be told. Each brought some of
their books to sell, donating 30% of the day's proceeds to Literacy Volunteers. READ MORE >>
